For all fans of Battlestar Galactica, American Director Ilana Rein has flown over from the States to bring an audiovisual treat to the Frequency festival – We Are All Cylons is a documentary that explores our human enthusiasm for technology and myth by examining the metaphysical resonances of the television series Battlestar Galactica.
Featuring interviews with the writer, producer and stars of the series the film shows how the five-year series had the power to transform some fans’ identities, with some referring to themselves as the Cylons from the show.
Rein tried to think of herself as part Cylon during the editing process, allowing this to influence her musical selections and scene transitions.
“I created my film to appeal to fans of the show, of course,” Rein said, “but also to appeal to people who have never even heard of Battlestar Galactica but are still interested in issues such as artificial intelligence, rapidly advancing technology and the malleability of identity.” (WIRED)
The documentary takes a look at our humanity, the fungible nature of our own identities, and what makes as human in the digital age.
The screening is free but places are limited.
Director Ilana Rein will be present for a Q&A after the screening.
