LIGHT BOAT - The Institute for Crazy Dancing
19th, 20th & 21st February - 5:30pm - 9:30pm
Location - Exchange Square - What Three Words: ///remark.facing.hurry
Rock gently, turn slowly; listen to the LIGHT BOAT alphabet as the drum beats and the chains rattle… Then file your forecast for the future in the Ship’s Log…
The LIGHT BOAT is about slowness, kindness and gentleness. It is about getting your bearings whilst rocking gently and looking at the world from a slowly changing point of view.
The structure is a 6 metre long timber keel with four rib sections. It forms the skeleton of a small boat. Canvas hammocks are strung between each of the ribs. The boat turns in very slow circles. It is a contemplative ride that creates a beautiful and compelling energy wherever it lands.
About the artist(s)
The Institute for Crazy Dancing is a performance company and collective of thinkers, do-ers, dancers, musicians and clowns. They collaborate with people, councils, museums, galleries and venues in order to create unexpected experiences in familiar and unfamiliar places.
ICD have created numerous site-responsive participatory performances – notably: TREASURE HUNT – Leeds: a participatory journey & extravaganza through the city at night; and DEEP WATER (in collaboration with Exponential Aerial Theatre) – Goole: an immersive, spectacular and intimate event over three sites (Nature Trail, Waterways Museum and Coal Hoist) along the Aire & Calder Canal.
They aim to create work that provokes curiosity, engages people in conversation and changes the way we look at the world.
