Serving Sounds is a mobile sound bar where music pours out instead of pints.
Built by Working Boys Club, twin brothers who swapped the trades for the stage, this interactive installation transforms everyday bar objects into beat-making machines. Tap a glass, slide a coin, flip a beermat… and suddenly you’re layering your own track. Synths, snares, strings; no two grooves are ever the same.
Set up like a classic pub bar but wired for sonic surprises, Serving Sounds invites audiences of all ages to play, experiment and collaborate. No musical skill required, just curiosity and a sense of fun.
Expect laughs, dance moves and a whole lot of bass.
About the artist(s)
Working Boys Club was founded in 2020 by identical twins Jason and Adam Dupree from Poole. Both began in the trades, Adam as a car mechanic and Jason as an electrician, before moving into the arts as a musician designer maker and a contemporary circus director. They create work shaped by working class culture and hands-on experiences.
Access information
Serving Sounds is designed to be an open, playful and welcoming experience for a wide range of audiences.
Wheelchair accessible: the bar and objects sit at the standard UK pub bar height, making them reachable for wheelchair users.
Speech-free: performers interact through action rather than spoken instruction. There is no required dialogue and no textual content in the sound.
Relaxed format: audiences can come and go, stay as long or as briefly as they wish (subject to queueing), and are encouraged to make noise and get involved.
Interactive: every item on the bar triggers sound or music when touched, inviting hands-on participation.
Sensory: objects are made from varied materials including soft, hard and liquid elements, each producing different sonic responses.
Loud: the installation uses a powerful tower speaker and is intended to be enjoyed at high volume.
Some d/Deaf participants may choose to stand closer to the speaker to feel the bass and drum vibrations.
Sustainability information
Serving Sounds is built with sustainability and accessibility in mind, both practically and creatively. The bar itself is upcycled from the artists’ Dad’s old kitchen table, giving new life to something full of memory and meaning. The whole structure is made using reclaimed and repurposed materials wherever possible, and it’s designed to be modular and durable for long-term touring.
