Frequency 2019
From 24–27 October 2019 Lincoln once again played host to Frequency Festival of Digital Culture, welcoming artists, creative technologists and visitors from across the city, the UK and the globe, to come together for an extraordinary showcase of digital creativity and energetic debate on digital culture.
Frequency Festival has become a key highlight in Lincoln’s cultural calendar; renowned for city-wide digital takeovers in non-traditional spaces such as Lincoln Cathedral, the city’s underground Roman Posterngate, cafés, churches, shopping centres and outdoor spaces as well as key city venues and gallery spaces.
The 2019 festival theme was Disruption = Cultural Reinvention. Our relationship with the digital realm has changed significantly since the festivals inception 8 years ago. With technology advancing at such a rapid pace, innovative ideas continue to emerge; disrupting the status quo. Whether it be the radical changes to our local high street, the impact of our mobile phones and online persona on our personal relationships or how we form a view on the world around us, digital has become intrinsic to everything we do. And having access to the internet anytime and anyplace, from the device in our pocket, makes cultural disruptors of us all.
To reflect the ever-changing city and the fast-growing digital sector, Threshold Studios evolved a new format for the 2019 festival. The programme was presented across four jam-packed days, including events to harness the collective voices of the creative industries, spark debate and shape the future of digital culture.
Wednesday 23 October, Frequency International Festival of Digital Culture introduced the inaugural THE MEET UP event to set the scene for one of the UK’s leading digital culture festivals on until 27 October 2019. The event brought together the collective voices of the creative industries to explore ways in which we can move diversity forward in a technological age and help shape the future of digital.
This year’s theme was Women In Tech, with inspiring speakers and participants joining us from across the country including Dr Anne–Marie Imafidon MBE (Co-Founder of the Stemettes), Ghislaine Boddington (Co-Founder and Creative Director of body>data>space and Women Shift Digital), Donna Close (Director, AMP Culture, Associate Director at Festivals and Events International, Associate Director Threshold Studios) and our very own Uzma Johal MBE (Co-Founder and Co-Director of Threshold Studios and Co-Director of Frequency Festival).
