One Week Later: Frequency Festival 26 Highlights

26 February, 2026

A week has passed since Frequency Festival of Light, Play & Discovery transformed Lincoln after dark.

The installations have powered down. The pocket guides have been folded away. The city has returned to its usual rhythm.

But the feeling has not.

For three evenings, Lincoln became a shared canvas. Historic buildings carried colour and sound. Shopfronts glowed. Streets filled with conversation. People paused. Looked up. Stayed longer.

Here are some of the moments we’re still thinking about.

The City After Dark

One of the most powerful things about Frequency is that it invites people to experience familiar places differently.

From early evening, families, students, couples and visitors moved through the city together. Grandparents stood alongside children watching light unfold across historic façades. Friends followed the installations from one location to the next, discovering spaces they had never visited before.

There is something quietly transformative about seeing your own city lit with imagination.

Play in Public Space

Across the festival, audiences did more than observe.

At the Light Painting workshop with Access Creative, participants of all ages experimented with colour, movement and long-exposure photography. Laughter echoed through Saltergate as strangers collaborated on shared creations.

Interactive works such as LIGHT BOAT by The Institute for Crazy Dancing invited curiosity. Sonic installations encouraged stillness. Performative moments drew spontaneous applause.

Frequency is built on participation. Watching people step forward, rather than stand back, is always a highlight.

A Collective Effort

Festivals of this scale do not happen by accident.

They rely on collaboration between artists, partners, funders, local businesses and volunteers. They rely on trust, expertise and long hours behind the scenes.

We are incredibly grateful to the artists who brought ambition and care to their commissions. To our city partners who supported the vision. To businesses who extended opening hours and welcomed visitors. To volunteers who greeted audiences with warmth throughout the weekend.

And to the Threshold and Frequency team, who delivered calmly and professionally at every stage.

Looking Ahead

Each year Frequency evolves.

This edition felt like one that strengthened identity, supported the local economy and created space for connection across generations.

The conversations, partnerships and ideas sparked this February will continue shaping what comes next.

Thank you to everyone who walked the trail, shared a photo, brought a friend or simply paused to look.

Frequency will return. And when it does, the city will once again glow with possibility.
