Birchwood Connections – Lumo Workshop

Date: 28th-31st October

Time: Throughout

Location: Birchwood and Online

Birchwood Connections sees local residents making digital artworks and wearable tech accessories to light up themselves and their city!

Lumo Workshop invited local people to ‘tell us about your place’, sharing their stories of life in Birchwood to be part of a digital artwork premiered at the festival. They also invited residents to get creative at a drop-in workshop, to make a light-up badge or help create a big sculpture to be installed in the city centre during Frequency Festival.

When the festival begins, you can see the artwork live on the Frequency website, or by using the QR codes found on sculptures in Birchwood and Cornhill.  See the stories and ideas of local residents, and get to know another community in the city.

Frequency is committed to providing a creative platform for the people of Lincoln. Birchwood Connections is a chance to get artistic and forge connections with other communities in the city.

About the Artists

Lumo Workshop is the collaboration of theatre designer-maker Lou Jones, visual artist Nadya Monfrinoli and an amazing pool of artists and venues working across numerous arts disciplines. They devise community engagement that is accessible, challenging and rewarding.

About the commission

Birchwood Connections is developed through Digital Democracies, a two-year programme led by Threshold Studios and supported by Arts Council England. Digital Democracies connects three UK-based commissioning festivals, Frequency International Festival of Digital Culture (Produced by Threshold Studios), Freedom Festival (Produced by Freedom Festival Arts Trust) and Brighton Digital Festival (Directed by Lighthouse) to explore the intersection of technology, art and public space.
