GIFs are shared billions of times a day but how often do we stop and think about what effect they have on our environment?
Poems Made from Words Found in the Bin is part of award-winning artist Rhiannon Armstrong’s project The Slow GIF Movement. The Slow GIF Movement asks us to consider our agency and responsibility for hostility in public space, both online and in the built environment.
The Slow GIF Movement seeks to make GIFs that are careful, tactile, and have a positive impact on the viewer. GIFs are uploaded onto an official Giphy channel so that they can be accessed anywhere in the world by searching the GIF keyboard on your smartphone app using the hashtag #slowgifs.
A co-commission with Brighton Digital Festival.
Rhiannon Armstrong is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist making works with empathy, interaction, and dialogue at their core, often for unfiltered audiences. Conversation and collaboration are central to her practice: between makers of different disciplines, public contributors, and audiences.
