After a year of isolation and disconnection, Frequency 2021 offered an opportunity to explore outdoor public spaces once more, to be surprised and delighted and to reconnect safely with the city and each other. The biennial festival offered online and real-world encounters as it celebrated 10 years of bringing inventive digital culture into Lincoln’s historic city.

A few highlights from Frequency 2021

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our 10th year anniversary of Frequency Festival! You made this year’s festival so special for all of us.

Artist Spotlight: Darkfield

The first season of Darkfield Radio shows launched in July 2020 to critical acclaim, featuring in major film festivals such as Venice International Film Festival, IDFA and Raindance Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival and winning Columbia’s Digital Storytelling Lab’s Breakthrough Award in recognition of the year’s most innovative narrative.

Artist Spotlight: Zest Theatre

Established in 2007, Zest Theatre is a national touring theatre company creating eye-opening work for young people. Delivering over 100 performances and reaching nearly 20,000 people annually, they tour to theatres, outdoor spaces and schools with a variety of interactive, immersive, site specific and promenade productions. Their new work Monolith is in Frequency’s online programme, so we asked them a few questions about the theme of this year’s festival.

A Gentle Giant Comes to Lincoln

Air Giants’ Luma is coming to Lincoln Cornhill on Sunday 31st October for Frequency Festival 2021.

With a small team of artists, roboticists, puppeteers and software engineers based in Bristol, UK, the Air Giants team applies soft robotic design principles at a super-scale, and their innovations in air control and sensing systems bring their creations to life.
