Threshold Studios have been Festival Directors for Frequency since establishing the festival in 2011.

Threshold is a creative and cultural agency using digital technology to create space for change. We nurture creativity, seek new diverse talent and deliver transformative experiences so that people and places can thrive.

Throughout our 23-year history, cultural equality has been a key driver of Threshold’s mission and activity.

We build innovative programmes and opportunities for audiences within the places where the public have ownership and agency, with a particular focus on those from diverse backgrounds and those who are currently under-represented in the arts and media industries.

Uzma Johal MBE, Director, Threshold Studios said:

“Frequency Festival is the cultural heartbeat of the amazing city of Lincoln. The pandemic has changed us all forever and, after much careful consideration alongside our city partners, we have decided to proceed with this year’s festival. We want to make sure we can welcome visitors safely, without losing the spirit of play and curiosity that Frequency is famous for. Our audiences embrace adventure and love to discover new things, and in new ways. Now, with the theme of Connection for our 10th anniversary festival, we will go on a new adventure with them.”

Sam Lindley, Director of Programmes, Threshold Studios said:

“We are delighted to be bringing Frequency back to Lincoln for four days. Frequency celebrates digital culture and our national, place based and international talent that continue to create unique, thoughtful, playful, and transformative experiences.

Throughout the 12 years of the festival, we’ve consistently seen the positive impact it plays in connecting us with our towns and cities by transforming our day-to-day experiences.  The festival is open to everyone, and we continue to be grateful to our funders, partners and collaborators for supporting and enabling this to happen and for the audiences who bring it to life. The enthusiasm and joy for past festivals makes us all determined to make this festival our best.”
